Transport sector, like any other, is distinguished by impressive innovative developments – each succeeding generation demonstrates improved characteristics for new models. It is clearly seen by the example of SkyWay network, particularly, its unibus efficiency.

Such results were shown by SkyWay transport in the course of research in Krylov State Research Centre. When carrying out a wind-tunnel test, a unibus needed fuelling based on one litre of diesel fuel per passenger in order to cover the distance of 230 km at a speed of up to 500 km/h, or 2,050 km at a speed of 100 km/h. If compared to conventional wheeled transport, the prospect of SkyWay transport with regard to its fuel consumption becomes obvious. An automobile moving on asphalt at the same speed will consume much more fuel due to power increase.

So far, Airbus A380 has been considered the most economic transport. Despite the speed difference (Airbus develops the speed of up to 890 km/h and unibus – just up to 500 km/h), they can be compared. For example, at the distance of up to 2,500 km, SkyWay transport can be undoubtedly considered faster. The trip by SkyWay transport from Moscow to St. Petersburg will take only 1 hour and 40 minutes. At the same time, in order to cover this distance by Airbus, you will have to spend at least 3 hours. In addition, a passenger will have to pay for transport from the airport to the city. Airbus tanks become empty within 17.5 hours of flight. It burns 343 tons of fuel per 24 hours; this index is increased up to 125,000 tons per year, and up to 2.5 mln tons of kerosene per 20 years.
In contrast, SkyWay transport with the same passenger carrying capacity can use electric energy, that is ecologically clean. Calculated as conventional fuel, 27 tons will be spent per 24 hours. It is not difficult to calculate that the saving for a few dozen years will be tremendous – over 2 mln tons.


In the end, 25 mln kilometres of high-speed SkyWay tracks, which will be operated by 250 thousand of unibuses, will give huge advantages compared to aviation. Thanks to SkyWay transport, it will become possible to save about 31 bln tons of fuel. In addition, there will be reduced expenses for operating personnel – the automated control system will require a significantly fewer number of employees. Taken as a whole, these advantages will lead to a lower cost of travel.


A short payback period of SkyWay tracks is obvious, their profitability has been proved. What is left is just to wait till the moment when the newest transport technologies will be implemented in reality.
