Main Trends of the World Government Summit

At the World Government Summit, which is being held in Dubai, the UAE, from 10 up to 12 February, there has been taken place the SkyWay string transport presentation with the support of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The event was attended by a great number of influential guests, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria, IMF Director Christine Lagarde, Director-General of the International Labour Organization Guy Ryder, Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, and even actor Harrison Ford and rapper Will.i.am. In total, there are more than 4,000 influential people from all over the world.

The general topic of the discussion during the Summit was technology: from the components of «smart city» to the impact of artificial intelligence on the status of women in society.

Smart cities

The direction of the UAE development for the coming years was stated by the Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, who chose an impressive and technological format for his speech: the speech was made by his hologram. In his speech, the Crown Prince spoke about the importance of information technology development for the formation of the future cities. He noted that in the future every resident of the city would generate and consume energy from renewable sources such as solar panels.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed highlighted that Dubai plans to automate the transport sector in the coming years. The city management plans to reduce traffic by 40% and provide an opportunity for 80% of the population to get home from work in less than 20 minutes.

Together with his father Mohammed ibn Rashid Al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai, Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, the Crown Prince visited the Skyway exhibition pavilion. At the Summit, the project is presented by the Dubai RTA. Together with the developers of SkyWay, this Dubai Roads and Transport Authority plans to introduce a new mode of transport: Dubai Sky Pods.


The President of the UN General Assembly María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés urged the Summit participants to pay attention to environmental issues. She reminded the representatives of the opposing political forces, who gathered at the event, about the need to continue the strategy of the Paris agreements. She noted that greed, political conflict, nationalism and isolationism were accelerating global climate change.

In his speech, the famous actor Harrison Ford focused on the fact that the solution to environmental problems is «the main moral challenge of our time». On the eve of the Summit, he released an emotional video in which he urged the guests of the event to join the discussion.


There was announced at the summit that the UAE would host the first world robot challenge. The event will take place in October 2019 and will bring together young developers of artificial intelligence and robot designers from around the world.

At the forum, there was also shown a robot from ANYbotics, which will be used in agriculture, industry and rescue operations.
